Breeding program

Local products are more in demand than ever. Especially when it comes to meat, sourcing locally is a relevant and trust-building factor.

That is why we launched our own regional cattle breeding programme in 2014 with great dedication. Our commitment to the region significantly contributes to the preservation of the Uckermärker and Angus cattle breeds. The added value stays within the region and creates local jobs.

But the idea of sustainability goes much further: the natural, GMO-free feed is also grown locally, which minimises transport routes. Our partner farmers are based in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and neighbouring northern Brandenburg, from the Baltic Sea to the Elbe. In this region, the favourable weather conditions allow for the longest grazing periods.

ANIMAL WELFARE IMPLEMENTED CONSISTENTLY.

Our natural cattle rearing adheres to the highest standards:

  • The calves grow up with their mothers on pasture for around six months.
  • All cattle live in open barns with plenty of space and straw.
  • They are fed natural, GMO-free feed from the region.
  • Dehorning of the animals is not permitted.
  • The cattle are only slaughtered after 18–27 months.
  • We prioritise short transport routes: the maximum transport time for animals is three hours.
  • We compensate our contract farmers for their services with prices significantly above the market level. This enables our farmers to implement comprehensive animal welfare measures and use the land sustainably.

BLACK ANGUS PROGRAMME FROM TRANSYLVANIA.

In Transylvania, Romania, an idyllic, hilly landscape with extensive pastures and maritime climate influences, we have partnered with a Black Angus farm that produces the highest quality meat from purebred Angus pasture-fed cattle. Transylvania is ideally suited to cattle breeding due to its landscape and climate. Pasture farming takes place from April to November. During the colder winter months, the cattle are housed in modern, open stables where they can roam freely and are sustainably fed. This feed is produced locally and is free from genetically modified ingredients. The balanced diet, combined with year-round freedom of movement, is the secret behind the exceptional flavour of the finely grained and well-marbled beef.

Our core competency is beef. Decades of know-how and our long-term business relationships and partnerships enable us to produce meat of the highest quality, in ever greater harmony with nature. Our efforts to achieve this strategic goal are a fundamental pillar of our sustainability management.

THE BALANCED FEEDING COMBINED WITH YEAR-ROUND FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT – THAT’S WHAT CREATES THE SPECIAL FLAVOUR OF THE BEEF.

The tender, juicy Angus meat is characterised by particularly fine fibres and good marbling. Try it!
